Having a mailing ready to go by the first week of january, or
even sending it the last week of december, gives you a head start on the new year.
However, events are one of the most marketable fundraising activities to offer your
supporters and one that can provide a high public profile. Sometimes events are the only
time an organization interacts face-to-face with its donors and members. This information
should be committed to memory and available without much prompting.
Your more established professional friends or
parents' friends can contribute more money than those who are still students or perhaps
work in the nonprofit sector. Appreciate, and thank your donors. Cultivation is a detour
and stewardship an afterthought.

But none of
these resources can overcome the simple facts of the cost of communication, and most of
them take those costs for granted and end up reinforcing a form of fundraising that is
anything but balanced. At the national level, grants tend to be in the $5,000-$10,000
range, with smaller amounts given at the regional and local levels. A budget should follow
the establishment of your organization's positive, but realistic, goals for the year.
Special events can be a great way for volunteers, including board members, to get their
feet wet with fundraising.
It's a sad fact that many people are dissatisfied with the town they live in. Many
nonprofits have begun their operations by using free or inexpensive office space supplied
by congregations. Some of them will work better for young kids on a soccer or little
league baseball team, while others will work best for older age groups like high school or
college groups, and some are better suited to organizations with established websites (or
the ability to build them). "The fundraising community has seen companies in and out
of the category over and again and isn't going to support a manufacturer that has not
demonstrated long-term commitment.
